Eligibility
Which patients to screen
Carrier screening is appropriate for any patient planning a pregnancy. These groups benefit most, and the earlier the screen, the wider the reproductive options.
Preconception couples
Any couple planning a pregnancy, ideally screened together at least three months before conception so results can inform reproductive options.
Consanguineous couples
First- or second-cousin unions, or couples from the same tribe or village, where the chance of sharing a recessive variant is materially higher.
Positive family history
A known recessive or X-linked condition, unexplained infant death, developmental delay or recurrent pregnancy loss in either family.
IVF and PGT-M pathways
Couples entering IVF who may need PGT-M design, gamete donation review, or embryo-transfer decisions. VISTA 1200+ is usually the right panel here.
Gamete and embryo donors
Donor screening and donor–recipient matching, where an expanded panel reduces the chance of pairing two carriers of the same condition.
Early pregnancy
Screening is still informative in the first trimester, but timelines are tight — order at the booking visit so results return in time for diagnostic options.
When VISTA™ is not the right test
- Patients seeking a diagnostic answer for existing symptoms — order diagnostic testing instead.
- Screening for dominant adult-onset conditions or cancer predisposition; VISTA is a recessive carrier panel.
- Patients who have received an allogeneic bone-marrow transplant or a transfusion within the last 14 days (blood sample); use saliva or defer.

From requisition to report in six steps

Select the panel
VISTA 10+ (11 conditions), VISTA 170+ (172 conditions) or VISTA 1200+ (1,200+ genes). Add Fragile X or Hemophilia A where indicated.

Consent & requisition
Complete the geneticlab test requisition with patient demographics, clinical indication, consanguinity status and partner details. Signed informed consent is mandatory.

Collect the sample
2–5 mL peripheral blood in EDTA (purple top), or a geneticlab saliva kit. Label with patient name, MRN and collection date at the bedside.
Store 2–8 °C, do not freeze

Arrange logistics
Request a courier pickup from geneticlab. Samples are collected across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah on same-day or next-day pickup.
Pickup within 24 h
- 05
Sequencing & interpretation
Targeted-capture NGS on DNBSEQ platforms, curated against BGI's variant database and ClinVar, with ACMG-based classification.
21 working days (26 for 1200+)

Report & counselling
Reports are released to the ordering clinician through the geneticlab portal. Genetic counselling is available for at-risk couples and reflex partner testing.
